Workshops

 

  • Candles
    • Looking at the various candles and what they mean. Making a model of the 'paschal candle'.
  • Stained Glass
    • Why we have stained glass windows, and the stories told in the windows. Making a model 'stained glass' window.
  • Special Clothes
    • Looking at and trying on the various robes that are used in the Cathedral. Learning about the designs and symbols on them and why they are in different colours for different times of year.
  • What is a Cathedral?
    • Looking at the special items of furniture, the font, the lectern, the pulpit the altar and the Bishop's Throne and using these to explain what the Cathedral is for.
  • Celtic Saints
    • The stories of St Asaph and St Kentigern, who founded the first religious community on the site. Learning about the life of a monk including dressing up as one.The story of the Bishop of St Asaph who translated the Bible into Welsh. Looking at different Bibles and trying some Calligraphy and copying some Greek and Hebrew letters.
  • William Morgan
    • The story of the Bishop of St Asaph who translated the Bible into Welsh. Looking at different Bibles and trying some Calligraphy and copying some Greek and Hebrew letters.
  • Organ and Hymn
    • Aim:
      • To experience something of what it is like to be in a Cathedral choir.
    • Activities:
      • The organist will talk about the organ, showing some of the pipes.
      • We will then listen to a piece of music played and sing a hymn. 
      • We will then leave the Cathedral in a procession (some of the children will be robed from their last workshop).
