World Mission
The Diocese of St Asaph seeks to take seriously its membership of the world Church and the worldwide Anglican Communion. As a diocese we value and support the work of the main Anglican mission agencies, particularly USPG and CMS, and the other agencies which have formed part of the Welsh Partnership for World Mission.
The World Mission Officer is a resource for any parish, group of churches or church school wanting to explore ways of growing their support for the World Church in mission or making new links. He is keen to help churches reflect on their response to the Five Marks of Mission, both in terms of their own mission work and their support for mission elsewhere.
The Five Marks of Mission are:
- To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom ("Tell")
- To Nurture and teach new believers ("Teach")
- To respond to human need in loving service ("Tend")
- To seek to transform unjust structures of society ("Transform") and
- To Safeguard creation and sustain and renew the earth ("Treasure")
Resource materials for study courses and for special events or acts of worship are available and the World Mission Officers is happy to speak, or to suggest speakers with recent 'World Church' experience, as well as advising on, for example, gap year or short term placement opportunities.
It is our aim as a Diocese that every local church should have some awareness of, involvement in, and way of supporting World Mission. We shall also launch a Diocesan World Mission Appeal in the autumn of every year, encouraging parishes, groups and deaneries to make World Mission part of their theme as they keep the season of St Andrew's-tide, Advent and through to Epiphany; and there will be a Diocesan World Mission Service at which that offering is received, in the spring.
The Diocese is in the process of building a Companionship Link with the Diocese of South-West Tanganyika, within the Church of Tanzania.
The World Mission Officer is a member of the Board for Renewal and Parish Development, and seeks to work closely with the World Development Officer via the Board of Church and Society.
