Eisteddfod Cytun tent

Churches tent busy for Eisteddfod celebrations

Church services were held every morning in Welsh at the Cytun tent at the National Eisteddfod in Wrexham last week.

The festival was held in the town for the first time since 1977 and the Churches got together to offer refreshments, a meeting place and information about local churches as well as Christian charities and organisations.

Bishop Gregory attended the festival on the Friday while Revd Martin Snellgrove was among those leading the daily worship services.

Diocesan Language Officer Revd Mair Jones spent the week at the Eisteddfod and said:

“The tent has been very busy throughout the week. It was a slow start but by Thursday a lot of people were coming through and there has been a lot of sharing.

“The services have been held every morning and there has been a lot of variety.

“I did the intercessions on Tuesday and Martin spoke on Isaiah 55 – he had learnt the chapter in Welsh and did it really well.”

The churches in Wrexham produced a prayer book in Welsh and English for the Eisteddfod.

Art Ellinson helped to distribute it and said:

“It is wonderful to read that the Officials have described this as a happy Eisteddfod. These have been blessings indeed!

“May we all feel encouraged to continue to pray for this land over the months ahead, perhaps from time to time using the heartfelt prayers of all those who contributed to the Prayer Booklet which was shared with all the chapels and churches of the Borough and made widely available to visitors at the Eisteddfod.”
