Huge Outreach Event underway in Newtown
A week of activities designed to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with the people of Newtown is underway.
Llanfest 2011 features a former Wales rugby star, a performing arts school and students from St Michael’s Church in Aberystwyth.
It's been organised by the churches in Llanllwchaiarn, Aberhafesp and Newtown and will see congregations take part in a variety of events including a carnival, drama productions and even litter picking. Revd Andy Grimwood launched Llanfest at a special service in All Saints' Church, Newtown on 11 June.
Through the week there are special events taking place for men and women. The girls get to take each other on at ten pin bowling in Newtown on the Monday night before the lads gather together to hear ex Wales rugby star Garin Jenkins speak about his faith on the Wednesday.
Throughout the week there’s a Bible exhibition in the local schools where children will be able to learn about the scriptures and how they’re just as relevant today as they’ve always been.
Revd Andy Grimwood, who’s Rector of Llanllwchaiarn, Aberhafesp and Newtown said:
“The focus is on the town of Newtown but we will also spend time in the surrounding villages with all the churches taking part.
“The aim is to reach the people of the parish with the Good News of Jesus and to show them that the Bible is not a dead book – it is something living that changes our lives.”
