Bishop Gregory hands over Mary's licence

St Joseph's Wrexham welcomes new chaplain

Bishop Gregory has licensed Revd Mary Stallard as the new chaplain at St Joseph’s Catholic and Anglican High School in Wrexham.

During a special service on Tuesday 6 September, Mary was officially welcomed to the role where she will serve as Anglican chaplain.

Pupils from Year 7 helped in the service with the readings and some of the prayers before Bishop Gregory spoke from Isaiah 61. He explained the freedom Christians can enjoy before stressing the important role St Joseph’s plays in allowing children to explore faith.

Commenting on the service, Mary said:

“It was great and I was really moved at the start to see so many friends here among the clergy.

“The school made a huge effort and the kids behaved superbly – I am over the moon to be here.”

Headteacher at St Joseph’s, Mrs Maria Rimmer also addressed the service and said afterwards:

“Today has been very special for the whole community here at St Joseph’s.

“It’s been a wonderful opportunity for the governors, staff and pupils to gather with Bishop Gregory, the clergy and the education officers from both the Anglican and Catholic Dioceses to witness this special ministry that Reverend Mary has started.”
