South West Tanganyika visitors start St Asaph trip
Canon John Kwetu and Sister Aneth from our linked Diocese of South West Tanganyika have started their visit to St Asaph with a few days in the south of the Diocese.
After attending a Eucharist in Llansantffraid on Sunday (October 2) with Bishop Gregory, they have been to visit a dairy farm and also a local school. Canon John and Sister Aneth were able to try out an interactive white board in the classroom at Llansantffraid School.
Our visitors have also been to see parishes in Newtown and were presented with a giant cheque by Revd Andy Grimwood, Area Dean of Cedewain, which will go towards the Diocesan Offering for the motorbike appeal.
Later this week Canon John and Sister Aneth will move to the north of the Diocese but in the meantime are staying with Revd Pam Powell in Llansantffraid.
Pam said:
“It’s been a wonderful start to the visit and I think the photos tell the story.
“I think Canon John and Sister Aneth have felt very welcome. Some things are already quite familiar such as the Anglican worship – even though here it’s in English and Welsh it takes on the same pattern as they are used to in South West Tanganyika.”
On Monday 10 October our visitors will attend the Diocesan Offering service at St Asaph Cathedral.
This year’s offering is helping to raise money to purchase motorbikes and bicycles for clergy in South West Tanganyika to enable them to visit their parishioners more effectively instead of having to make a 30km round-trip on foot.
Find out more about the offering here.
Photos of Canon John and Sister Aneth’s trip will be added to our Flickr site throughout the visit.
