People of Towyn star in Nativity Scene
A nativity scene has been set up at St Mary’s Church, Towyn with every character in the Christmas story depicted by a member of the church or the local community.
Photographs of all the characters in costume have been blown up onto thick plastic sheeting with Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus played by a young family from the church.
Joining them in the stable are shepherds, kings and angels all played by other church members and local people.
Associate Priest at St Mary’s, Reverend Canon Clive Southerton said:
“The idea is to try and take Christmas into the community and it’s been very well received.
“We had a hospice service last Monday and a lot of people from the community came to that service and they were taking photographs and talking about how wonderful it is.”
The crib scene will face the road in the run up to Christmas so that everyone can appreciate it as they pass St Mary’s and walk up to the entrance.
It sits in a huge wooden box to protect it from the elements and was put together by Mike Petersen and Harry Edwardson who are also in the nativity scene as a king and a shepherd.
Clive added:
“It’s wonderful and a stunning piece of art but more than that it’s involving local people and taking Christmas to them.”
