The Diocese of
St. Davids
Venturing in mission

THE FIVE MARKS OF mission

  • As we journey towards the centenary of the Church in Wales in 2020, the diocese is undertaking a comprehensive analysis of its strengths and weaknesses. Our inspiration for this exercise is the Five Marks of Mission.

The First Mark of Mission: to proclaim the good news of the kingdomThe second mark of mission: to teach, baptise and murture new believersThe third mark of mission: to respond to human need by loving serviceThe fourth mark of mission: to seek to transform unjust structures of societyThe fifth mark of mission: to strive to safeguard the integrity of creation

    • To proclaim the good news of the kingdom
    • To teach, baptise and nurture new believers
    • To respond to human need by loving service
    • To seek to transform unjust structures of society
    • To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth
  • The Five Marks were developed by the Anglican Consultative Council at successive meetings from 1984 to 1990 when, at its meeting in Wales, they were finally adopted.

The Mission prayer takes us to the heart of what we believe God is calling us to do and to become. We know that plans and initiatives will always depend on the quality of Christian living and discipleship in the diocese. And so we pray:

God our Father, always behind us,
God the Son always alongside us,
God the Holy Spirit, always ahead of us,
Calm our fears and renew our faith,
So that with you we may venture
To break new ground, take risks
And further your mission in this diocese,
to your honour and glory
