    Motion:  That the Governing Body:
    • take note of the Church in Wales's response to the St Andrew's Draft of the Anglican Covenant

    Motion: That the Governing Body do go into Committee:

  2. St Asaph Diocese Under 25s Presentation
  3. Children & Parenting: A Strategy for the Future (Social Responsibility Presentation)
  4. Presentation on CTBI ‘Roots’ Projects
  5. Church in Wales Jubilee Fund

    Motion: That the Governing Body:
    1. express its sympathy to the Near East Council of Churches and the people of the Shija’ia district of Gaza City at the destruction of its Family Health Centre by an Israeli missile on 10 January 2009;
    2. commend the work of the Church in Wales Jubilee Fund in supporting the NECC in the rebuilding of the Family Health Centre and the restocking of medicines and equipment for the pharmacy and mobile dental clinic;
    3. ask parishes to raise money for the Fund and its work in partnership with the NECC in Gaza, particularly through “Wales’ Biggest Coffee Morning” on 2nd May and other events.
  6. Private Members’ Motion

    The Venerable Malcolm Squires, Archdeacon of Wrexham, will propose and the Reverend Canon Jonathan Williams will second the motion:

      That the Governing Body:
    1. note that as a result of the Church of England Marriage Measure 2008 the qualifications for entitlement to be married in Church in the Church in Wales are now different from those which apply in the Church of England, and that this is likely to cause tensions especially, although note exclusively, in areas close to the border; and
    2. noting that an Act of Parliament will be required to change the law applicable in the Church in Wales so that it mirrors that which applies in England request the Standing Committee to take the appropriate steps to encourage the enactment of such legislation.

      Motion: That the Governing Body:
    1. warmly thank all those involved in the presentations about:
      1. the St Asaph diocesan under 25s work
      2. social responsibility officers work on children & parenting issues
      3. CTBI ‘Roots’ Projects
      4. the work of the Children’s Commissioner
      5. the Mothers’ Union’s work in Wales
      6. the Archbishop’s Fund for Children
    2. commend the work of these projects and organisations and the contributions they are making to supporting children, young people and families throughout Wales.

  7. Supermarkets & British Farming

      Motion: That the Governing body:
    1. welcome the Report entitled “Fairtrade begins at Home – Supermarkets and the effect on British farming livelihoods” as a valuable contribution to understanding the current economic and commercial context both for food producers and consumers;
    2. commend the Report for study and action where appropriate by all who have pastoral care of farming communities in Wales;
    3. ask the Church’s investors to take account of the Report and to use such shareholder influence as they may to ensure justice for rural communities.
  8. The Report of St Michael’s College, Llandaff

    Motion: 
    • That the Report of St Michael’s College, Llandaff be received
  9. Date and Place of Next Meeting
    • The Governing Body has decided that the next Ordinary Meeting be held on 16 and 17 September 2009 at the University of Wales, Lampeter.
