This year the Cathedral and the Priory School hosted the School Foundation Governors Training day.
'preparation isn't easy !!'

Freddie Fisher, one of the resources displayed at the day
As well as school Governors there were also Clergy, Sunday school teachers, school staff and others involved in children's work invited.
The day began with a service attended by just over 80 people in the cathedral led by the Dean. Archdeacon Randolph read and Archdeacon Robert led the rededication of those involved in children's work. Revd Helen Rees, the Diocesan Director of Education, led the prayers. The service offered a moving and inspirational start to the day, and reminded people of the importance of working with children as Governors, head teachers, teachers, Sunday School teachers, Bishops visitors and leaders of children's groups.
The Dean then led everyone in a visual tour of the cathedral, enthusiastically encouraging schools and other groups to use the cathedral as a valuable resource.
After a good lunch in the Heritage Centre there was an opportunity to view some of the resources which had been put together in the Priory School. The Churches Together Bookshop in Cardiff brought a range of Books useful for children's work. Gill Vaisey brought along her creation, The Revd. Freddie Fisher, in various clerical clothing ! She brought further resources to be used with Revd. Freddie Fisher in addition to various other resources related to working with children. There were also displays relating to Messy church and Open the Book, and there was also a workshop on Godly Play.
The day offered a huge amount of ideas for those involved in children's work whether it be in schools or in church. Church schools (and state schools too !) continue to be a valuable part of our ministry and there are increasing amounts of useful resources available.
If you need advice on the help available for work in schools or working with children and young people in church, please contact Revd Helen Rees, the Diocesan Director of Education on 01597 822739, Mrs.Liz Kirlew, the Children's Officer or Revd Neil Hook, the Youth Officer.

At the University of Wales, Swansea, there is an ecumenically based chaplaincy. The Chaplaincy:
Exists to focus, support and develop the spiritual life of the University community, regardless of status, race or faith. People of all denominations and of any faith or none are welcomed here.
You are always welcome for refuge or refreshment, to worship, pray, read, to talk, eat or meet friends, to discuss or argue ... or just to be.... and for counsel, support and friendship.
A weekly covenanted Eucharist using the Anglican rite, and evening prayer, are important features. Revd Nigel John is the Anglican Chaplain.
These and all other activities of the Education Team are directed towards improving the mission and ministry of the Diocese.
Since early times the Church has been involved in education. Many of our Church schools were established in the mid- nineteenth century before the state made education compulsory. Today each Church school recognises its historic foundations and seeks to preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church at parish and diocesan level. Each Church school seeks to serve its community by providing inclusive education of the highest quality of Christian belief and practice for all its pupils.
